Meet Rescue, a 1-year-old male German Shepherd mix weighing in at around 70 pounds.
While Rescue's past is unknown, it is obvious from his appearance that he has not had an easy life so far. Rescue came to us pretty skinny with an old injury to his muzzle which left him with some hair loss, thankfully the hair has now regrown nicely and he is looking like a new boy. Rescue's left ear also seems to be slightly deformed or a possible old injury, maybe from Momma when he was born... This is cosmetic and doesn't affect him in any way with day-to-day life except that ear sticks up and the other is floppy. Rescue has been putting on weight and while he is probably done growing we do expect him to fill out more, so he could end up weighing more than his current 70 pounds. Rescue loves treats and has been enjoying calm socialization from the shelter staff. When he came in his was quite unsure but his calm, gentle disposition quickly won over the hearts of our staff and made him a staff favorite. He needs an adopter that can go slow with him, showing him the new things life has to offer. It has been a rewarding experience for our staff to do this, especially when you see the trust in his eyes. Rescue might like other dogs but a meet should be done prior to adoption. Rescue is great on a leash, and enjoys walks with staff in the park. He is very careful not to pull and when a staff member tried jogging with him Rescue kept pace while occasionally glancing back to make sure his two-legged friend was still there. This dog is really exceptional and we see great things in his future. This pet is available for adoption at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. If you recognize this animal please contact the adoption center at 509-457-6854. If you are interested in adopting this pet please fill out an adoption questionnaire at www.yakimahumane.org. A Yakima Humane Society staff member will contact you once your questionnaire has been received. Adopters are welcome to visit the adoption center Monday-Saturday. A Picture says 1000 words...right? While an animal's picture draws interest, the reality is that as a potential adopter most people would like as much information as possible about a pet. The Yakima Humane Society is an open admission shelter. What does this mean? Over 90% of the pets at the adoption center arrive as strays, no history of behavior or medical care is known. Adding a pet to your family is a big responsibility. Please research carefully and remember that adoption is life saving. Adopt Don't Shop. |
