Yakima Humane Society is now servicing Ellensburg • Details
The Yakima Humane Society was founded in 1904, becoming an incorporated entity in 1906. We are a private, nonprofit animal welfare organization proud to be serving the people and animals of Yakima County for over 100 years. We practice and promote the humane treatment of animals through animal control services, pet adoption, humane education, information, referral and quality animal care.
The Yakima Humane Society is committed to ending animal suffering and cruelty, reducing animal overpopulation, and educating the public regarding responsible pet ownership while promoting community kindness and commitment to their welfare.
At the Yakima Humane Society, we are committed to ending the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals. As the only open-admission shelter in Yakima County, we accept companion animals regardless of breed, health or behavior. Our staff and volunteers provide support and life-saving rehabilitation for the animals in our care.
We are saving pets, one life at a time. We are proud of the progress we have made over the years, and we know there is still a long way to go. Tracking our numbers is how we measure our progress in saving lives and helps us to identify how to best help the most at-risk animals. With the help of our community and our transfer partners we have achieved a 90% save rate for dogs - that's an accomplishment to celebrate! In the next few years, we are working on solutions to save more cats in our community.
You can help make a difference! Consider donating today, or come to volunteer, or foster an animal in your home - it takes a community to make a difference.
