Meet Lilly, a 5-year-old female German Shepherd.
Lilly is a fabulous lady. She is a large girl at over 70 pounds but she doesn't seem that big. Lilly does good on her leash and loves treats. She doesn't seem to have had an easy life up to this point and really needs a forever family that will give her a soft place to land.
Please do your breed research before applying to adopt Lilly. German Shepherds and GSD mixes are a special breed of dog with special requirements. These dogs were bred to have a job, and without the right activity level/purpose they won't flourish which can lead to issues down the road. These dogs are incredibly smart and need to be challenged both physically and mentally to really be happy. The German Shepherd is known to be vocal when excited and can be a bit mouthy at times, proper training is key in helping your German Shepherd adjust to their new life. German Shepherds are a fun, athletic breed that many have fallen in love with over the years, but please keep their breed needs in mind when considering adding one to your household.

A Picture says 1000 words...right? While an animal's picture draws interest, the reality is that as a potential adopter most people would like as much information as possible about a pet. The Yakima Humane Society is an open admission shelter. What does this mean? Over 90% of the pets at the adoption center arrive as strays, no history of behavior or medical care is known. Adding a pet to your family is a big responsibility. Please research carefully and remember that adoption is life saving. Adopt Don't Shop.
NOTE: All pre-adoption questionnaires are subject to approval. Adopters must be 18 years of age. Entire families may be required to visit, including resident dog(s). 24-hour adoption holds may be placed on any animal (for approved adopters) with a non-refundable deposit. All dogs must leave with a collar and leash. All cats must leave in a pet carrier for their safety. Renters are required to have proof of landlord approval.
