Meet Nova, a four year old Australian Kelpie mix weighing 58 pounds (although she is quite overweight).

Nova's story is a sad one, she is quite literally the stereotypical case of her owners getting a puppy and no longer wanting her. She came in as a stray and we called the owners on the microchip and were told we had the wrong number. Some people came in who help with the greenway and said the chipped owner had owned the dog for a while and were homeless. When she was told by them that the dog is at YHS she told them that she is fine with that as she left it at the park because she now has puppies that she would rather have. The greenway people said she has been found multiple times by them before being returned to her owner and she is good with dogs of all sizes and even their cats.

Nova is so cute; she does a little happy dance when she gets excited in her kennel. She does need to lose weigh in order to stay healthy and live a long life. She is so friendly, loves going for walks and very active even with her size so we think she will lose her weight without issue. This silly lady is treat motivated and keeps us laughing.

NOTE: All pre-adoption questionnaires are subject to approval. Adopters must be 18 years of age. Entire families may be required to visit, including resident dog(s). 48-hour adoption holds may be placed on any animal (for approved adopters) with a non-refundable deposit. All dogs must leave with a collar and leash. All cats must leave in a pet carrier for their safety. Renters are required to have proof of landlord approval.
