Updated note from a public walker:
"Mead's got some super sad eyes, but he loved running around; after about five minutes of sprinting he had burned off some energy and was pretty easy on the leash thereafter. He has a reliable "look" which was reinforced with treats. I also began teaching him how to "sit" which took some gentle pressure on his rump to give him the idea. He was 3/5 on that; but he's well motivated and should be happy to learn. The last time we did it was near the shelter / trail entrance, and there were several pups walking. Once he sat, I wanted to see how he would react to them going past. He did great just looking on (from about 30 feet away) and didn't bark or try to lunge. I was very pleased. He was also friendly with two separate folks out in the park. Early on, he did height-seek quite a bit, which might put some potential families off. He's a quick sprinter out of the blocks, too. But his face is fantastic and even in a half hour he showed he's trainable! He'll be a good boy." Meet Mead, a 2-year-old male Pit Bull Terrier mix. Mead was found tied to a shopping cart all alone. He had cheat grass embedded in his feet and an ear infection. Mead is being treated and has already started to feel better. He loves to go out for walks and does good on his leash. Mead likes to keep a clean kennel and has a very friendly personality. This big goober is fun loving and because he is already neutered, you can take him home today! This pet is available for adoption on 6/24/22. If you recognize this animal please contact the adoption center at 509-457-6854. If you are interested in adopting this pet please fill out an adoption questionnaire at www.yakimahumane.org. A Yakima Humane Society staff member will contact you once your questionnaire has been received. A Picture says 1000 words...right? While an animal's picture draws interest, the reality is that as a potential adopter most people would like as much information as possible about a pet. The Yakima Humane Society is an open admission shelter. What does this mean? Over 90% of the pets at the adoption center arrive as strays, no history of behavior or medical care is known. Adding a pet to your family is a big responsibility. Please research carefully and remember that adoption is life saving. Adopt Don't Shop. |
