Meet Chico a 2-year-old male Shepherd/Dane mix.
Chico is a large and happy boy weighing in at 82 pounds. He loves to get attention and is super excited to hang out with anyone and everyone. Chico's previous owners kept him outside in an unsecured yard that he would often leave behind, preferring to go and sneak into his neighbor's yard and play with their dogs. Due to this Chico was brought into us multiple time by animal control and this last time his owner decided not to come for him. This is no fault of Chico's, if a yard isn't made secure for a dog who is going to blame them for roaming?
Since then Chico has gone into foster with someone and hasn't escaped their yard once. This foster usually takes him for several days at a time and has grown quiet attached to Chico, unfortunately they have five dogs and are unable to keep Chico full time but are hoping their temporary fostering helps him by getting him out of the shelter. Chico is a big, densely built boy who is working on his manners. He needs an owner that will be in charge and make sure he knows the rules, once Chico knows there are rules he will follow them. Chico rides great in the care and does well in his crate at the foster home, we do recommend crating him when you aren't home so he stays safe and out of trouble. He plays well with other dogs, big and small and he even left the Foster's feral cat alone. However, we always recommend a supervised introduction with any new animals to make sure everyone gets along. Chico knows the command "sit" and has the cutest nubbin of a tail. He is happy, social and loves his toys. We do recommend having toys available for him to play with so he doesn't go searching for toys and decided your lawn furniture looks like a chew toy. If you can't tell, Chico is like a big puppy with a great heart looking for someone to love.

A Picture says 1000 words...right? While an animal's picture draws interest, the reality is that as a potential adopter most people would like as much information as possible about a pet. The Yakima Humane Society is an open admission shelter. What does this mean? Over 90% of the pets at the adoption center arrive as strays, no history of behavior or medical care is known. Adding a pet to your family is a big responsibility. Please research carefully and remember that adoption is life saving. Adopt Don't Shop.
