Meet George, an eight month old Pit mix.

George was rather traumatized by the way he came to us. A man walked in claiming he caught him and needed to drop him off, when we informed the man we were completely full he became belligerent and told us he would be dumping the dog one way or another. The way to dog reacted it was immediately clear it was his dog, our hearts broke as he dropped the dog without a leash or collar by our front gate and walked away, the dog frantically chasing him and trying to get back into his car. His owner drove away leaving the dog cowering in pouring rain. George then saw a similar looking car and tried repeatedly to get into the car before hiding under it and evading staffs attempts to catch him. It took 15 or so minutes before staff managed to catch him, all three staff members and George were soaked to the bone.

Understandably it has taken a bit of time for George to come out of his shell after such a horrible first introduction to shelter life, but dogs are resilient, and George is no exception. We found George does best when he is around another dog to help him come out of his shell. He really enjoys playing with canine companions and is kind of a spaz. This boy is just a puppy at heart and will blossom with a bit of socializing and basic training. We expect him to be shy and a bit unsure when he goes into a new home environment so we recommend keeping a leash attached to him to make him easier to catch if needed as well as leash walking him at first so he doesn't get scared in a backyard and run away. George has come incredibly far in the short time he has been with us so we think he will exceed expectations when in the right home. He just needs someone understanding.
