Meet Clara, a one year old Lab/Husky mix weighing 40 pounds.

Clara is a sweet, gentle girl who is looking for a patient family willing to help her learn that the world can be a safe place. She came to Yakima Humane Society through Animal Control after being removed from a difficult situation, and she is still adjusting to all the changes in her life.

Right now, Clara can be timid, flighty, and unsure in new environments. Because of this, we recommend keeping her on a leash indoors for the first few weeks, allowing it to drag behind her so she can be safely guided when needed. We also recommend leash-walking her in a secure yard until she becomes comfortable with her new family and surroundings, as frightened dogs may try to escape when they are unsure of where they are.

Clara would do best in a calm home without young children. While she may not show her true personality right away, we know there is a sweetheart hiding beneath her shy exterior. With patience, consistency, and kindness, Clara is likely to blossom into a loving and devoted companion.

If you have a quiet home and the time to help a deserving dog build confidence, Clara may be the perfect match for you.

NOTE: All pre-adoption questionnaires are subject to approval. Adopters must be 18 years of age. Entire families may be required to visit, including resident dog(s). 48-hour adoption holds may be placed on any animal (for approved adopters) with a non-refundable deposit. All dogs must leave with a collar and leash. All cats must leave in a pet carrier for their safety. Renters may be required to have proof of landlord approval.
